After reading several blogs and forums i decided to use the "export template" function and incled resources. The remaining problem now is how can i make the "www.newsite.new" point to a new created portal that uses the exported template. Should it be a child portal. "www.newsite.new" should be redirected in some way to my new portal, for example called: site2. How can i redirect from default site to"site2" when "www.newsite.new" is requested. Or is there any way to let portal0 use the exported template?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't understand your issue. If you need to move your installation, the best option is moving database and files, as described in the pinned post. the portal will keep users and all settings, while you will need to tweak a number of details if using site export. By design, you need to add new portal alias to the newly created site and make sure that name and web servers forward domain address to this IIS web site.

My issue is that i dont know how to make the site url to point to the new created child portal instead of portal0.

The reason for moving the website with export/import template instead of copying db and files as described in the pinned post is the following:

Every time i have moved or made manually changes in the database, dotnetnuke will stop working. The main reason seem to be that user rights has changed when the copy/change process is made by another user than ASPNET or NETWORKSERVICE. But even if i change userrights back to the previous settings  dnn wont fire  up anymore, the install is "bricked".

This problem is in some way mentioned in the pinned post. Some kind of third party database tool for compare and copy data is recommended instead of moving the complete databasefile.

Instead of buying thirdparty tools my goal was to get the job done with export/import template with resources included. (This site is a simple setup with a few standard modules).

sorry, are you trying to export a web site and import it as its own child portal? this doesn't make sense and should be avoided.

do you need to export and import into the same DNN installaion ? I don't unserstand your use case, please explain.

I got one computer  with a dnnsite configured and filled with content.

I need to move this content to another machine at the host provider. There is a fresh dnn installed on 2008server at the host provider.

I have made a test to move the content with the export/import template feature, from one dnninstall to another with success. The only problem is that the url points to the default portal instead of the new portal, with correct template. Every other attempt to move the content with copying the database has failed.

Thanks, Christer
