Hi all,

We're updating our site, currently in DNN 4.9.2. I've seen a couple threads about the differences between 4.9 and the 5.x branch, but really wonder if it's worth upgrading the site, or hanging with 4.9 through next December (at which time we may switch platforms).

I'm hopeful for solid suggestions - not flamebait - about whether to upgrade (if the time/effort is worth it) or to remain on the 4.9 branch, as our window of opportunity is now, over the summer.

Thanks!

Dave,

please be aware, there is no version of DNN 5, released ready for production yet.

DNN 5.1.0 will have a couple of new features and - if no mayor issues are reported - shall be a valuably improve your site (at least, if not using localization).

I always wait for feedback from other user's upgrades before upgrading my own production sites.

Cheers from Germany,

Hi dhcrusoe

You are way to focused on running the latest instead of running the most stable version ..... DNN 4.9.4 I will run on my production sites for at least 1 more year beacause it is stable today and it will be stable for many years to come ..... when updating a year from now you will have many more threads on how to sort out this or the other .... many more modules will be stable with DNN5.x.x than they are today ..... so take it cool and do what gives you least headace ........ DON'T upgrade

Hi Dave,

The question I ask you is: What features do you need so badly in 5.x? If you can't answer that then let it mature a little... I definitely will not be upgrading PokerDIY.com any time soon - I will give it at least another 3 months. The way I see 5.1 is a framework build - there is not actually that much in it for the end user (here come the flames ;) - so it wont make much difference to my users if I upgrade or not. The next few builds will expand on some cool usability/UI features hopefully...

I agree with Rodney. From a end user perspective, I don't think there is not much to be gained by upgrading from 4.9.2. to 5.1. You would be better of running 4.9.4. There are some issues solved wrt 4.9.2.

It would be nice if someone would write a nice long blog post in which he argues why I should move to 5.1. At this point in time I am a bit confused about what features are really in 5.1 and what are promised to be in (but are not).

Any takers?
