I deleted the folder contents of my physical folder and restored from backup. I also restored the database for the same backup date. This allowed the 2 sites that use the primary domain name to begin working as expected.

However, there must be something missing from the permissions that the restore process created, since now I have a 403 error on the three portals that use other domain names. I don't know where exactly these permissions reside.

make sure to grant full permission on file system to the virtual ASP.Net user ("Network Service" by default).

Yes, I have verified that the NETWORK SERVICE has full permissions on the top level folder and permissions are set to propagate to all subfolders, but the 403 error persists.

Any other suggestions about what could be blocking access? Does the fact that I can access the default domain site (what I have labeld "Portal Manager") and two portals that use my domain name but not other portals that have different domain names provide a clude?

are you talking about multiple web sites within the same DNN installation, where some portals can be accessed and others not? Did you verify the host header values in your IIS web site configuration, also make sure NOT to point multiple IIS web sites to the same DNN installation,.
