We are trying to install a second DNN site on our web server for our new Intranet. Our main website uses DNN and when we tried setting up another portal within it as a Parent portal for our Intranet the SSL certificate clashed. Therefore we decided to create another separate installation for the Intranet instead. We created the folder set up the Security, enabled the Virtual folder through IIS with the correct settings and installed a new version. When went through the install process we get to the third page which relates to the SQL database and we get the following error -

Select Database:
SQL Server 2005/2008 (Express) File
SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 Database

Server:
Enter the Name or IP Address of the computer where the Database is located. (if using Oracle enter the Data Source (SID))
Database:
Enter the Database name
Integrated Security:
Check this if you are using SQL Server's Integrated Security, which means you will be using your Windows account to access SQL Server. If you are using SQL Server Express then you will most likely need to check this option. If you have been given a UserId/Password to access your Database, leave this unchecked, and provide the UserId/Password combination.
Run as db Owner:
Check this if you are running the database as Database Owner - if left unchecked you will be running as the User ID specified
Object Qualifier:
Enter an optional "prefix" to use for all your database objects - this helps ensure that there are no object name clashes.

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 16
Number: 297
Message: The user does not have permission to perform this action.

Can you please tell me why we are getting this error when we are using the same database and settings for our previous successful installation.

Many Thanks

If you are using the same database, you should delete the old database (back up if required) and create a new one.

If this still fails google "ASP.NET" "SQL Server" permissions intigrated (this is assuming you want to connect via intigrated security, the info supplied implies that you do).

you need to create a new blank database and grant db owner permission to the ASP.Net account ("Network Service" by default, specified in your application pool)

you may also reuse the existing DNN installation with a different domain name, but make sure to assign a dedicated IP address for the SSL site (other than Server default IP, used for all other sites) and use host headers appropriately.
