Hey all!

I have a website running that is doing a 302 redirect every time you hit the url (http://www.itracks.com). This is breaking our site ranking for the google bot, as the bot doesn't handle 302 redirects. Is there any way to stop the site from doing a redirect and, instead, just go to the default.aspx page?

Thanks, in advance, for the help!

It sounds like you just need to setup the default file in your webserver to point to the default.aspx file on the initial request. I'm sure your web hosting company will be able to get that fixed if you ask them to adjust your default file to 'default.aspx' instead of the current 302 redirect. If you want to stick with the redirection, I'd probably switch the 302 to a 301 redirect so bots can adjust the links and crawl the correct page, you might also want to want to look into adding canonical links into your site as well...

Thanks for the post Oliver. The website is on an IIS server that I have control of. I already had Default.aspx set as the default document. Could thing maybe have something to do with having multiple portable aliases on the website?

After testing with the Firefox Addin for changing User Agent Strings, I have figured out that Firefox and IE don't get 302 redirected but when I change the user string to googlebot, I get redirected. Where/What settings can I change to stop this browser detected redirect?

Figured it out. Apparently, because of limitations of the GoogleBot, it was getting an "Object Not Set to an Instance..." error, which was 302 directing to an error page. This was caused by the home page not being included in the main menu (we have it in the top banner). I just added the home page to the menu and then hid it with a display:none;.
