Hello, we have a questions about exporting users from a dnn portal and import them into another dnn portal.

A customer of us have an old DNN 3.x live running, with like 2500 registered users. What he wants to do, is exporting them from this portal, and import them into his new DNN 5.1 portal, without losing username, passwords and profile data.

Is this doable? If it is done by some third party module, could some of you point us to the best module for doing so?

Thank you in advance!
Davide

Davide,

I occasionally have to do this for customers and was able to do it using BulkUserManager from PHDobson. Due to the fact, that it is not always intuitive to handle, I suggest to beackup database before starting to use it.

PS: make sure, imported passwords do meet requirements specified in web.config of the importing site, otherwise you might end up with a number of partly created users.

This should be a core feature.   If you can't import users, it's hard to sell this as an intranet type portal system..

I've had to purchase modules that due this...

Hello, thank you very much for pointing us to the right direction.

Yes, I also agree with that: it should be a core function; it's not that hard part to code, afterall....

Thanks!
