Hey guys,

I am running dnn3.2.2 locally. Have everything working correctly so far. Attempted to install the theme simpleclean in the app. I am signed in as the host. Went to the skins page and selected to upload skin. I selected the .zip file and added the file. I didnt see any errors when this was uploading. After uploading the new theme, the files were installed in the following dir structure: c:\DotNetNuke\Portals\_default\Skins\SimplyClean_v1\SimplyClean. The documentation says that it should be in this directory: root\DesktopModules\Forum\Themes\SimplyClean\Simplyclean.css

In the skins module, I see the "SimplyClean_v1" but under skins, I have no skin files exist in the folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This module does not use skins, it uses themes. The important difference is 1. its not as customizable and 2. it has to be ftp'ed and cannot be installed via web interface.

Thanks for the reply Crispy. I am running this locally, dont know if this makes a diff on the advice you gave me. I dont need to ftp any files. I am new to .net and am diving into DNN. I really thought that skins and themes were synonymous. Will have to take another look at that.  How do I go about using the theme with the forum module? I have been messing around with this all day. Thanks again.

Ok, figured out where to add this theme.....I don't see what should have changed with this theme. What should I notice to be different from the silver theme?

This is where you change the theme for the forum module. Under the forum menu(arrow on the left upper corner of the module) click on forum admin. Then click on General settings. There is a property in there to change the theme.

For anyone reading this post later, you would drop the theme into the desktopmodules\forum\themes\ folder. The forum theme folder name and the css file must be named the same. As for themes and skins, themes are something custom to the forum module. (Although third party developers may use them, i don't know of any that do though).

Now, when changing themes like you did under General Settings, you need to make sure the user theme selection checkbox is disabled to apply for all users, or you need to select the theme when you are logged in by going to "My Settings" and changing there.
