I have read through the documentation on the Forums module but  I still can't seem to configure any of my users to be able to post in any of the forums I have setup.

Only administrators seem to be able to post new threards. I have both a public no restrictions forum and a private role restricted forum and in both a registered user can't post.

The documentation says

Only people who are in the roles given access are able to view the forum. This does not mean they can post in it. If they want to post in it, you either leave the Authorized edit roles as Not Specified or you add them to the authorized edit roles using the same procedure but for that section. Remember that in addition to the restrictions you just placed on a specific forum, you have to give the roles view module permissions for those users to be able to view it. You must also give the roles edit module permissions in the settings of the module for them to be able to post in it.

I have tried both leaving the restricted roles as "Not specified" and adding in the same roles that I gave view access to. In either case there was no change. Am I missing something?

First, if you want registered users to post in any forum in a forum module you need to give that role edit rights to the module. (This is also covered in documentation as a recommendation as well) If you have a forum module with these perms set and you want to allow all logged in users to post as well as all non-logged in users to read (like we do here) clear out all authorized and edit authorized roles and rely solely on the modules edit rights.

Thanks! Seems earlier this afternoon I had actually clicked on the page settings not the module. I saw the full access to the page and figured that couldnt be right. (and it wasn't).

Everything seems to be good now.

I have covered this container issue in other posts, basically don't use a container with a title. I know thats not a great answer, but thats how the core works and we are not going to change the entire module security set to accomodate this one issue.
