It's not the server time, because the timezone is correct for a user once I update their profile.

It's not caching problems either because they are already set to NZ time by default. It seems I have to unselect and reselect a time, then update the profile and all is well. It's as if the timezone is not really set initially, even though the dropdown appears as though it is.

I guess i'll have to update each user's profile one by one.

By default, preferred timezone in user profile is initialized with portal timezone from site settings. I am not aware of other sites having problems with it. Which DNN version are you running?

We are on 04.09.00.

The user profile timzone is set to (UTC + 12) Auckland, Fiji etc., which is the same as in the portal timezone in site settings.

So this appears ok. It's just that the forum doesn't pick it up, until i re-update the profile.

sorry, Matthias, but time zone is not set in web.config (and even culture can be omitted, as long as UTF-8 is specified).

Portal Time Zone should be set to Server Time Zone due to irrational reasons and DST is currently not supported (we are working on it for future versions of the framework).

The forum itself does handle DST.
