I did a clean install of DNN 5.1 install version on the web server. When I go to the installer, I get the following error. Note that I didn't make any changes to the website. All I did was upload the zipfile, unzip it and go to the installer. Any way to fix this?

Sounds like you have a web.config set for the 3.5 framework that already has this entry.  Is there a second web.config in the web site folders maybe?  If so, delete or rename it.  If you're on IIS7 you may have a setting at a higher level, such as if your host set this at the server level.

The provider runs IIS 6. I created an application /Private. This is where DNN 5.1 sits. There is another application in / that has a .net 3.5 based web.config that probably passes down the object in question. This web.config can't be renamed, moved or deleted since it is the setup for the existing website that can't be changed right now. The more confusing thing is that I took a DNN 5.1 starter kit project, upgraded it to .net 3.5 when Visual Studio 2008 asked me to and used that as the test installer for the /private application. When I ran it there were 0 errors and the installer ran as expected. How would you explain that?

Hi

I'm in the same situation. I'm trying to install DNN in a virtual directory of a site. DNN is to be a child application of an other .net web app - which has its own web.config file.

I also cannot delete or rename this web.config file as it is crucial to the parent app.

So how can I install DNN? Anyone managed to do this?
