Thanks for the response Jon, but I must not be being clear...

I want the default behavior of redirecting to the page you were on when you started the registration process, not a specific page.

If you go into Site Settings -> Advanced as admin, you are able to choose a page for registration.  I've done this so I can customize the whole registration page and make it consistent across the site.  If you don't set this, you get the registration form dropped into the content pane of the page you're on, which is not working in my skin.

However, if you choose this option, registration no longer behaves as before.  It redirects to your profile page, rather than the page you are on.  I would like:

  • The default registration flow: any page -> registration -> back to same page, but logged in.
  • Using my own registration page.

Is this not possible?  Was there a reason it was designed this way, or is it a bug?

I have observed this behavior on my site at least since 4.9.0 (now on 5.1.0). I have always modified RedirectUrl() in Admin\Authentication\Login.ascx.vb to redirect to the querystring's returnurl, which isn't honored if you have a custom login page.
Is it a bug or by design? I have no idea. Given that the original code is working, but not quite how we would hope it should, doesn't necessarily make it a bug. But it would be nice if it did work the same way, whether you use the default login or a custom login page. I guess if you feel strongly about it, you could submit a bug/enhancement request at http://support.dotnetnuke.com.

Hi Aldeng

When I left the settings as default in DNN5, I WAS redirected to the page I was on.  E.G. if I was on "About Us" I would be redirected back to about us, and if I was on "Contact us" I would be redirected to contact us, etc... So that flow was as you ask - anypage - registration - back to same page.

We might be missing each other on this one, but you could always use the custom registration / user module on a specific page and redirect your register link to that page.  Then you can style the module rather than the page. If that makes sense...
