I have a newly set up Windows Server 2004 x64 server

Fresh install of SQL Server x64

During the install, I get

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.00.03

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText, SqlParameter[] commandParameters) at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText) at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteScript(String Script, Boolean

I checked SQL server configuration and TCP/IP is allowed.

I can also access SQL server remotely using Visual Studio with the username/password that is configured in the web.config file.

Any ideas on what I can look for?

I had a similar install problem using SQL Express, after setting everything up (folders, IIS config, etc) and then hitting localhost/dotnetnuke/default.aspx.    I think I tried again using the http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install link/command (of course your virtual directory could be named something else).  It gave a normal install page after that.  I hope something that easy works for you.  I guess I got lucky.

BTW, I have no idea what I am talking about, so try my advice at your own risk

Darin

Have you changed your connectionstring?

 <connectionstring>: name="SiteSqlServer"

<appsettings> : key="SiteSqlServer"
