I followed the DotNetNuke Installation Instructions to a "T". (filename: DotNetNuke Install Package Installation Instructions 052609.pdf). I had a little trouble getting the permissions settings right for the virtual directory (DotNetNuke) within IIS 6.0, and the C:\DotNetNuke directory, but those have been resolved

The instructions state: "The final step in the installation process is to launch the DotNetNuke wizard. Launch your preferred web browser and navigate to http://localhost/DotNetNuke (adjust the URL if you named the Virtual Directory something other than "DotNetNuke"). After a few seconds, the DotNetNuke Installation Wizard starts. The Wizard will guide you through verifying your installation and configuring your first portal. "

When I use the MS IE8.0 browser to launch the DonNetNuke Wizard (http://localhost/DotNetNuke), all I get within the browser is a list of the contents of the C:\DotNetNuke directory. So I try http://localhost/DotNetNuke/default.aspx, thinking it would launch the wizard given that ASP.NET page is the first to view. I then get The DotNetNuke Configuration Error of: "Access to the path 'C:\DotNetNuke\web.config' is denied."

This error is coming from a DotNetNuke web page, and provides some help. The help explains to check the permissions for the 'C:\DotNetNuke directory. I have checked this, and all the Groups and Users within the Security Tab are correct and are all administrators. The Permissions is set to "Full Control", so all the other settings are checked also. So.... how does one launch this DotNetNuke wizard???? Recommenations? Thanks

"When I use the MS IE8.0 browser to launch the DonNetNuke Wizard (http://localhost/DotNetNuke), all I get within the browser is a list of the contents of the C:\DotNetNuke directory."

You need to configure the default document in IIS to be Default.aspx.

"Access to the path 'C:\DotNetNuke\web.config' is denied."

You need to grant the NETWORK SERVICE account full control to the C:\DotNetNuke folder and all files/folders below it.  This is for Server 2003, Vista and Server 2008.  If you're using XP, the correct account is ASPNET.  This is not an administrator account and should not be added to that group.

Thanks so MUCH! Your recommendation worked!

I knew about IIS requiring the default.aspx page default. I had noticed this was within the C:\DotNetNuke directory, but not IIS.

What I didn't know was the Network Service (i.e. XP's ASPNET) being given full control access to the C:\DotNetNuke directory. That is what did it!

PLEASE have someone update your Installation Instructions and highlight these two requirements. They were never mentioned in the document.

Again....  THANKS SO MUCH!

Sorry about the comment that the DotNetNuke installation instructions didn't have this in there....  It did.... I just didn't understand what was actually being said, I guess.....

I've already installed DNN several times, but this time I'm having an error I've never had before.

In spite of having granted all priviliges over the DNN installation folders to the IIS account, when I try to browse the website, IIS complains saying 'the page can't be found'. Thus I'm also unable to start the installation wizard, or do anything else with DNN.

This happens with everything on the installation directory.

Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

Nicolas.
