My website is running DNN 4.9 without any problems at the moment, but I have the Critical Updates Available button in red at the top of the screen.

Does this mean I must upgrade soon?  I'd rather stay with this version and avoid any module compatibility issues so I'd like to understand the implications of this decision....

I don't expect compatibility issues even with most of the 3rd party modules, cause non of th DNN API has been touched AFAIR.

Upgrade is fairly easy (simply unzip the files hierarchically into DNN installation directory, overwriting exisitng files), but don't forget to backup files and database first!
