Hello,
Hopefully I'm positng in the proper area; I'm a noob to DNN.  Here's our issue.
We have PDF files which we've uploaded to the server via DNN File Manager.  We have webpages which we've linked to these files.  When we click on the link to view the PDF, we get a link like http://dnntestsite/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=mI5PConoYL4%3d&tabid=222.  The proper PDF is viewed in a browser window with the Adobe Reader front-end.
Our issue is that when we go to save this PDF, it's default filename is LinkClick.PDF, not the actual file name.  Shouldn't the file name be stored in the database somewhere so we can save the PDF with the proper filename?  How can the end-user save the file with the default file name?  Can this be a feature request to be put into DNN?
     Thanks.. -Jeff

Please check in the advanced setting of the Host Settings if the pdf files are added to the upload allowed files.

Which module and what version of both the module and DNN framework are you using to present the links to the user? I've used the documents module extensively for containing PDF file links without these problems.

Sorry.. I was wondering if I'd receive e-mail notifications of replies and when i didn't, I decided to check the forums to find the replies.  Ooops, my bad.

Thank you for the reply.  We're running DNN CE 05.01.01 and the way we currently have it setup is within a HTML module, editing the content and then  we're linking the link to the file using Browse Server and selecting the file we which to link.  It'll then create the URL as" /LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=qonj7TvhPHg%3d&tabid=222".  Then when the end user clicks on the link, it'll open a web browser window and display the PDF (as it should).  It's when you go to save the PDF that it tries to save the PDF as LinkClick.PDF instead of the actual file name.

We don't have the documents module installed nor configured but I did find the links to it; is this them?

After installing this, how would we link it while editing our code?  Can you maybe post some examples?  Thanks.. -Jeff

When linking to a file from the HTML module, it appears that the LinkClick.aspx download handler does not receive the original filename and any attempt to save the opened PDF does indeed try to save the file as LinkClick.PDF. Even the document module (and yes, you have the correct links to that module) exhibits similar behavior when clicking on the document title but does properly pass the original filename when clicking on the "download" link.

One way around that behavior in the HTML module would be to switch to source view after inserting the file link and appending the querystring parameter-value pair (highlighted in yellow) at the end of the LinkClick.aspx query string:

"/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=qonj7TvhPHg%3d&tabid=222&forcedownload=true"

When clicking the link, the user will then be presented with the familiar "Open" or "Save" dialog which will include the correct filename. A pain to have to hand edit if you have many of these!
