Intermittently users fail to authenticate. I am one of them. We are running DNN 04.09.04 in an intranet only site. I have not been able to discover the pattern but occasionally authentication fails and we are directed to the home page with the 'register' hyperlink at the right. Are there any logs that can help diagnose the issue? I looked at the event log but not much use in this case.  Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry

Another day has passed and no issues with authentication.  I am wondering if the fact that I deleted a ton of roles (some 25-30) within DNN along with adding several new ones.  The users that had issues were members of a large number of the roles that were deleted and also the ones that were added.

Without seeing everything in person I suspect that you may have been timing out on login while it was trying to log you in. I haven't seen the exact scenario you described but I have seen accounts not get synchronized when there were a large number of roles to go against. This is an on-going problem and one I'm always working to improve.

Today I have one user that failed to authenticate.  No changes to the roles have occurred for over a week.  The problem is that I am stuck and have no way to get the user logged back in.  A solution would be nice but I am also looking for a work around.

Question:
I currently have the permissions of home page that the all users initially browses to set to 'All Users/View Page'.  Should I have permissions set to 'Registered Users/View Page' such that if automatic authentication fails user is directed to the login page?  Are there any ramifications to doing this?

Question #2:
How can I force a re-authentication?  Can I delete a cookie to force this?  If so is there a specfic cookie that I can delete?

Thanks,
Terry

You could set the page like that and add the account login module on the page and set its permissions to unauthentication users so that they login.

As far as the user's not being able to authenticate. Is this on automatic login through WindowsSignin.aspx or does it happen on manual login as well? If it's just happening on automatic login then they should get logged in if they don't visit the site for about an hour.
