We are attempting to upgrade our staging server prior to moving to production and after the upgrade page does it's thing with 100% success we click to go to site and we get "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page". Huh? Not even an error to point us !

Here is what we did to upgrade;

  1. backed up everything
  2. Unzipped Upgrade file and copied all folders over to site.
  3. Confirmed our Portal 0 folders were all there.
  4. We have two custom lines in web.config; one for CS code and a customer connect string for our stuff. This was added to development.config and then renamed web.config.
  5. We opened the site and the upgrade ran perfectly.
  6. Click to go to site and....... a big nothing.
  7. We have a test page at the root of the site and when we call it, it pops right up and shows data (authentication info... just for grins).
  8. We restored the site to original 4.9.1 and it worked perfectly.
  9. Did the same upgrade process with same results.

We are stumped.... not even sure where to start. Tried to look at Event Log in SQL.... wow that made my brain hurt and gave no information. Actually considered making an app that would read and display the log since DNN was AWL, but that was a waste of time too.

Help!

Thank you.

 Try doing the upgrade without disturbing the existing web.config file.  The upgrade process will "auto-merge" necessary changes.
