I am trying to move a installation to a new server.  The database and web server are on the same machine.  I'm on DNN 4.9.1 and using SQL Server 2005, on both source and target severs.

When I try to bring up the home page I get the following error:

Request timed out.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

[HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.]

I can successfully connect to the database with a vb program using the same connection string that is in web.config   So, it seems the login credentials work, just not in DNN.

Here are the steps I took in moving the installation.

  1. Copy all folder and files
  2. Created web site in IIS
  3. Made a backup of the database
  4. Restored the database from backup file
  5. Created login in database for user
  6. Ran  EXEC sp_change_users_login 'Auto_Fix', 'user' to link login to database user
  7. Changed DNS to point to new server

Any suggestions on what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

most likely, there are issues either with IIS web site configuration of missing file system permissions for the ASP.net account being used.

With regards to file permissions, as a test I gave "everyone" full control with no change.  I then cleared out all the files/folders for the site and did a clean install of v 4.9.1 into the existing location with a new database.  I didn't change anything in the IIS configuration.  The virgin site installed and ran fine.  Based on this it seems to be a problem with the database and not the file system.  Any additional thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
