thanks for all the posts.

I have run the above script and can see 1 search result for my keyword 'mypension' (a redundant page no longer in use).

However, this word appears many times on the site and so it looks like something is wrong with the search feature.

Search works for some words, but there are lots of words and phrases where it doesn't work at all.
I have been in the search admin panel, re-indexd content and changed the min and max words settings to 1 and 5 respectively (it used to be '2' for min words, and thought that this may be the cause of the problem, but it's still so flakey on our site: http://www.sypensions.org.uk/development ).

I suggest clearing the search index and reindex whole site.

also make sure, scheduled index job is running propery (host :: Scheduler)

My schedule is enabled (to run every 30 mins):

DotNetNuke.Services.Search.SearchEngineScheduler, DOTNETNUKE Enabled Every 30 Minutes

the site suggests this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Copy the following 4 lines and paste them into the text box:
    truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWordPosition
    DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWord
    DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchWord
    DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItem
  • Activate the check box and hit Run
  • The search index will be rebuilt automatically by the scheduler.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But I get errors:

sorry, I'm not too familair with the code - is it the curly brackets {  } causing the error?

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '{'. Line 2: Incorrect syntax near '}'. Line 3: Incorrect syntax near '}'. Line 4: Incorrect syntax near '}'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteADOScript(String SQL) at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteScript(String Script, Boolean UseTransactions)
truncate table.....

Should these {brackets} not be inserted?
Should I insert something esle in place of 'objectQualifier?

thanks,
mark.

please run the code from inside DNN using the text box in Host :: SQL module.

you might need to save text in a file first and save it as UNICODE. before copy & paste.

I wouldn't run search index that often, alter frequency to 1,2 or 4 hours, depending on portal size.

I have run the script now, but my search still does not work.

After running the re-indexing script (and just before the scheduler ran again) I tested for several words which did not appear - as expected.

Then I tested AFTER the scheduler ran (with the same words) - and only a few words were appearing in the search results.

Don't know if this matters but...
In SCHEDULE >> EDIT SCHEDULE >> Run On Servers - I had nothing selected in the checkboxes for my server (so I checked these boxes and ran script again, but my search still doesn't work properly)

(I am on dnn 5.1 , Framework 2.0 and sql server 2000)
thanks,
mark
