I have a brand new Web site hosted with DNN Community 4.9.4 that we just put into production. It's the .com domain name, and I've aliased in the .org and .net domains as well. Both the .org and .net domains have been added to the DNS as an alternative domain. I can go to the .org or .net domain and it works fine on the Home page. When they are aliased in, navigating to any page but the Home page on .net or .org gives a 404 error. If I remove the alias, they work, but revert to the IP address instead (which is still in the alias list).

I didn't think there was anything else that I needed to do to get the other domains to work, and will set up a .htaccess file to 301-redirect from one to the "main" domain. But for now, I've removed the .htaccess file to try to narrow down the problem.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hey Thomas ~

You're half way there.  Updating DNS tells the internet how to get traffic from a browser to the website setup in IIS.  But DNN, because of its mutli-portal capability, must also be advised that it should listen to the additional URL's being directed to it.  This is done by adding them to the Portal Alias list.  You can see detailed instructions here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Hel...

Cheers

Hi Scott, Thanks, but that's what I'm saying I already did. I add them to the portal alias, then any page except the home page from the aliased domains returns a 404 error.

I was looking in the web.config file, and the "friendly url" is something I haven't seen before - something called Ifinity? In the past, I've changed a setting in the web.config file to get the friendly URLs, but I don't think I did on this site. Is this a new feature of 4.9.4?

Let me know your thoughts, and thank you!

Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Tom

Tom,

make sure, you have added all domains as host headers for the IIS web site, i.e. all request are directed to the DNN installation.

Whether you add all domains as portal aliases depends, whether you want them to be served directly or redirected to a single domain (which is better for SEO). In the second case, the first portal alias is used from portal alias table, i.e. you may want to reorder it directly in the database table portalaliases.
