I have a site that is multi-lingual (well not really as it is en-US and en-CA) however the biggest issue is the dates format.  No matter what the Regional Setting of the browser are, I get different settings for different parts of the Events Module.  My primary site I see this in is www.myrtlebeachgolftalk.com where we have a trip calendar (The events module is in beta for the site and will be live after this weekend.  Registered users on the site can see it and add/edit their own events)  The main page has a module using that calendar has a sub-calendar in a list format.  I have the site set to detect Regional Setting in the browser.

For example:

  1. The list format using 'g' or 'd' always shows dd/mm/yyyy.  I fixed this by using MMM dd as the format in the template.
  2. The Add/Edit event is always mm/dd/yyyy even when using en-CA based browsers
  3. The "View Date" option at the top of the calendar is always dd/mm/yyyy no matter what the regional settings in the browser are.

I have tested this with my en-CA IE8 browser and my en-US Firefox 3.6 browser.  I have also tested each of the browser's regional settings using http://whatsmyuseragent.com/.  For example, my Firefox browser reports:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6

Hi Dave,

The FAQ here may help - http://dnnevents.codeplex.com/documen...

The Events module as far as I am aware does not format any date in a country specific manner, all dates should be formatted using system strings such as d or g, which will then generate date strings based how you have configured your portal / users.

Note that your portal may or may not be configured to pick up the language from the browser, most likely it is not. You can tell this by looking in the Language Settings. In DNN 5 this is found in Admin/Languages then clicking on Language settings as the bottom.

Assuming you have browser language detection switched off, the language used should be that specified against the user in their profile. If it is an anonymous user, I believe it will use the portal default.

Let me know if this doesn't solve your problem, or guide you in the right direction.

Cheers
Roger

Roger,

Thanks for the reply.  It's really very strange.  As I said, the View Date at the top of the monthly calendar is always dd/mm/yyyy, the list is always dd/mm/yyyy and the Add/Edit event is always mm/dd/yyyy.

I do have Browser Language Detection turned on, so I'm not quite sure what is going on.  The default is en-US, however I have en-CA as the only other language.

Cheers

You could try turning off browser language detection, and see if it does what you expect. You could also look at other locations where dates are displayed, forums and log files are possibilities.

I'll see if there is any logic as to why add/edit is different.

I've got to say that I'm not sure how Browser Language Detection plays into DNN. I've turned on in my dev environment, and it doesn't seem to make a difference for logged in users. It only seems to make a difference for anonymous users.

So my guess would be it is something to do with what locale you have set the user up for. Can you list the locales on:-

  • System - i.e. your OS
  • Portal - the portal default
  • User - in their profile
  • Browser - from languages page
