Hey team!

Jon here from www.dubuque365.com with some questions about the event module. First, is the events module multi-portal friendly? Our ex-programmer built us an events posting tool awhile back, before the most recent release of the events module. It is NOT multi portal friendly, and we don't have the means to code ourselves. Im playing around with 5.00.03 release oft he events module right now.

Second, I have a question about ways I can maximize it's useage, mainly the "categories" function. You'll see if you visit our site (www.dubuque365.com) we have tons of stuff going on which requires a solid event posting tool. Our site is very category based, things like "nightlife,"  "music,"  "family," etc.  I'm wondering if there's a way to have events show up in multiple places on the site without having to post it to each module you want it to appear. For example lets say I am posting a concert for the nightmarishly popular "kidz bop." It is both "family" and "music."  Can I post this event and select more than one category some how so it posts to both?

Our site crosses categories like this all the time, so is there something tag driven in the works, or is there a way I can configure things to make this work?

Thanks.

Jon

Hi Jon,

It depends on what you mean by multip-portal friendly. If you mean, can you display events across multiple portals, the answer is no. Events can only be displayed within a single portal, though of course you can use the events module in many portals.

Currently the module does not support assigning of multiple categories to an event. This is a feature we hope to add, but cannot say when it would be done. That said, you can have event appear in multiple places on the site, by using sub-calendars. So you can have all events from one calendar appear in another calendar.

I suggest you download the latest version, and give it a go. If it doesn't do what you want, we are regularly adding new features. That said, whilst we have fixed or added several hundred bug/features over the last couple of years, there are still over 70 in the queue. I suspect with the use of CodePlex for tracking these items, we will increasingly focus on those items with the greatest number of votes.

Cheers
Roger
