My users are all coming into DNN with the domain prefixed to username as 'ad\username.' Whereas in active directory, of course, the 'ad\' is not part of the username.

Is this a behavior I can control? I think it is responsible for people being removed from DNN roles that match AD roles where the users do have membership. (we added them manually when the autosynch didn't work ...)

I have just disabled that feature at the moment and managing manually but going forward would like it to work as expected.

Thanks -

Michael, the ad\ is added to the user when their account is created. I'm not sure of the original reason Tam had the user's being created that way but I've left it in because, in its own way, it makes sense. Not all sites using AD are intranet only and there could be potential problems with accounts without the domain prefix. For example, if the DNN corp decided to use the AD provider on this site for their employees and they had a staff member that had the domain username that match membership username on this site. With the domain prefix, he can login and there's no problem but without it we'd run into problems with duplicate usernames. Either his account couldn't be created or mine would be wiped out.

In any case, it's not the reason your users are being pulled out of roles. When the user's credentials are passed to DNN they come in as domain\username.
