If you want the soyrce install you have to install from scratch, there's no upgrade.  But then, since you don't run the source install as a production server, there's nothing to worry about losing, is there?

Otherwise, use the Upgrade version, and upgrade to 4.9.4 then 5.2.3.  Watch for third party modules that may not be compatible with higher versions.

i'm upgrading the production server through source install since the 4.5.5 version(the one running) is a source install.

so you're saying, there would be 2 steps of upgrade? can you provide me on "How" will i do the upgrade?

thanks so much.

You may upgrade using source package (make sure, not overwriting website/app_data/ database.mdf, if you are using it), but you may also delete top library and modules folders and continue with upgrade package unzipped into /website folder, this should install without issues. you should upgrade in 3 steps, via 4.6.2 (manually adopting changes in web.config file according to release.config) and 4.9.5 to 5.2.3 (these steps DON'T require manual touching web.config.
