I turned off my Sitelog and the Purge Log Buffer task many years ago - now I want to run it for a while to check out the stats but I need to configure it for optimal performance. I set the Host Setting (Site Log Buffer) to the max - 9999 items (I assume this is the number of items in memory before a disk dump).

My question is - what should the scheduled task (Purge Log Buffer) be set to? I assume if it is running once a day then the 9999 items will only be removed from memory 1 a day or is this incorrect? I have changed it to once every 30 minutes...

Advice please...

Site Log buffer should only be used on sites with high traffic, otherwise there is a risk, that the worker process get recycled before the buffer has been written and the buffer content is lost. Besides, I wouldn't start with such a high value, typical values I have used are between 10 and 50. you should purge the buffer frequently (e.g. every 2 minutes) to keep the data complete - or disable sitelog completely and use an external statistics software (e.g. SmaterStats or AntWS).

Thanks Sebastian - I use Google Analytics too but there are some reports like Users per day etc. that are really useful.

PokerDIY is not high high usage but gets a fair bit of activity - I ran a query on the Sitelog for 1 day and there are 26380 records after 24 hours - which is just over a 1000 an hour.

Performance is more important to me than accuracy of reports (I just need a vague idea of how it is being used) - hence I want to buffer it highly - maybe I'll drop that to 200 or so so it writes every 15 min or so. (I had the Sitelog turned off for 4 years!)
