Hello,

I am helping a friend update his DNN instance and he has somehow mangled the host superuser login. I have tried two different methods to fix this (created a new user and over-wrote the password and password-salt data in the aspnet_Membership table, and I have also tried to just set a new user to be a host account via setting the IsSuperUser bit to 1. It seems that the system is rejecting any attempt of a superuser to login (Normal "Login failed..." message).

Is there any other trick or technique that I am missing?

From what I am seeing, I believe that the original password got mangled with a version update / migration that reset the validation keys. That appears to be cleaned up now.

Thanks,

Rod

The same thing happened to me today. I upgraded my site (from 5.1.1 to 5.2.3) and now I can't log in as host or admin. Forgot password doesn't work.

Thanks,

Barry.

if you have access to the database, please follow this procedure: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/AboutDotnetNuke/V3V4TippsTricks/HostLoginvergessen.aspx

I didn't forget the passwords, something happened during the upgrade that makes them invalid. I did have one step in the upgrade process out of the ordinary. Previously, so I could access my SQLExpress database from SQL Server Management Studio, I had followed the instructions in Shawn Mehaffie's Blog (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/1202/DNN-SQLExpress-SQL-Server-Management-Studio.aspx)

So after copying the new package into my installation directory, I modified the Web.config with my previous SQL connection strings, and then restarted my site. It went through all the updates successfully, but now my usernames and passwords don't work. Again, I haven't forgotten them. I'm entering them correctly, but they fail.

Thanks.

if the site is unable to locate the database, the installer may have altered the machine key in your web.config file. restore original value from a backed up version prior to your changes.
