Very simple. I set the skin of my home page to a version of the site skin with a flash header. Then later I modified the skin package and uploaded it again. The changes take effect everywhere but the home page. The home page has a 'copied' version of the skin that will never update.

I have tried the following:

Reparse the skin in the skin module. NOPE

Completely removed the skin extension from the host side. Made sure the home page was set to Portal Default. And the portal was set back to DNN default. NOPE

Reuploaded the new version of the skin. NOPE

I have verified the flash version is correct by setting the whole site to the flash version. Updates are in place. When the home page is set to site default, I can see the new flash. When I manually set the home page to the same flash skin the site is using, the home page reverts to the old version.

Do I have to dig in with FTP, find some mirror copy of the skin created when the home page was initially customized and delete it? If so, where is this folder?

Thanks,

John

this sounds very weird, which DNN version are you running, I remember an issue in DNN 5.0/5.1

If the flash header is the only difference, this could be an isue with the path to the flash file.
Are you sure the home page skin did not load, or did it just not show the flash movie?

You could try this by adding an extra text to the home page skin or check the source of the page for what CSS files are loaded.

I'm on 5.1.3, through my seraching the skin problems you refer to are in 5.0.x. I'm not sure about jumping to 5.2 due to the newer framework requirements.

It's not just the flash. When I load the skin on the home page, it's loading the old skin. What I suspect is this: When you select a skin for a page that isn't the portal skin, DNN creates a copy of the skin files for the page. However when you update the skin package, DNN doesn't update the copied skin files for a page, just the portal. When you unselect the skin from the page, at the very least DNN should delete the page copy as it would no longer be needed.

I am going to dig into the files via FTP and try to find out what needs to be deleted. If anyone knows where DNN copies the skin package when you customize a page, it will save me some time.

DotNetNuke does not create a copy of an installed skin in any location other than where it is installed (i.e. _default/Skins/{SkinName} or {portalID}/Skins/{SkinName}). Based on your description, I can think of two possibilities:

1) That you have a skin that is duplicated at the Host level and the Site level and the setting on the skin layout selector on the page with the problem is set to Host when it should be Site, or it's Site when it should be Host

2) Another, remote possibility, is that there is an issue with the compiled version of the skin layout controls that are automatically created and maintained by the ASP.NET framework and stored in the temp folder (typically {SystemRoot}\Microsoft.Net\... sub-folder).
