Actually I posted too soon - I've just looked over the installation more carefully (good job I printed it out) and it's all fine until here:

00:00:13.421 - Creating Portal: My Website
00:00:13.687 - Portal failed to install:
00:00:13.687 - Installing Optional Resources:
Installation Complete

Why doesn;t the installer fail here - surely it should given the Portal failed to install??

So, now that I found my particular issue, how do I fix this?

We'd have to step thru the code to figure this out and we don't really have enough information. The only thing I can really suggest is to reinstall from scratch. Sorry.

hey guys, been a rough four days but ive seen the light ( thanks to the it gods). after running into that problem i was quick enough to take a snapshot of the install page, and as most of you would have noticed all your isntallations failed at one point, what happened? for some reason DNN didnt create the database that it was calling for when you ran the app to modify it. so whats to do? literally, delete the DB from SQL and re install it and voila. works like magic

now we can get to the fun parts!

Hi!

You have to configure permission (Security) for the folder: 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNN4\Portals'.

Open Folder Propeties. Select Security tab.

Add ASP.NET & NETWORK SERVICE with permissions: full control.

Rebuld site.
