Hello--

Does anyone know of an example, etc. that goes through the configuration changes needed in web.config to switch from using the default asp.net membership provider to using DNN's membership provider?

My setup is this:
I have WCF services on subdomain: api.domain.com
DNN is located at: domain.com

The services are written in C# and can't be integrated directly to the DNN's asp.net website project. It has its own website.

The subdomain is physically hosted & its web.config doesn't inherit any properties.

Since DNN's membership provider is built on top of the asp.net 2.0 membership provider, I tried simply swapping out the LocalSqlServer connection string to point at my installed DNN database, but that doesn't work--

Thanks in advance!
Alan

You won't be able to do this simply by making a web.config change. You will need to customize an authentication provider to make DNN use another data source for authentication information.

Is there an easier way to do it?

Another idea I had - what if the web services are located on www.domain.com/services

and DNN is installed on the root. Then the web.config at /services should inherit from the domain, and if I simply include the dotnetnuke namespace DLLs in the ASP.NET project that hosts the services, can I expect to get login information from user controller & have it work in that case?

(I'm not lazy - I would just try this out myself but I'm currently having some problems with my host provider in getting the services configured correctly)

Thanks
Alan
