Hello,

Being fairly new to DNN,  I would like to know what modules experienced users feel are the best ones to install.  Obviously, you don't need a module unless you need its functionality, but some module types are needed in every install.  For instance what do you recommend for a wysiwyg editor module, the best web form (contact forms, etc.) module or the best FAQ module.  I would love to hear peoples experiences with different modules and would like to hear about both free and commercial modules.  Also, are their other sites which have ratings and reviews of modules.

Thanks, Gary

it always depends on the needs (and budget) for the site, which modules to install. We have a number of customer sites, which don't have any bundled module installed, while other installations rely mostly on those. Free forms modules are Form and List or Helferlein Forms (www.helferlein.com), while DataSprings.com has a well known commercial forms module. Intranet sites may need a document management module, other rely on built in file management.

There are lot's of good third party modules depending on your needs.  One must have for any DNN site is a Ventrian.com subscription - their News Articles module is the best for announcements and blogs.  They have several very good and often useful modules included in the subscription.

Thank you for your replies.  What do you think of the built in HTML module versus other HTML/text editors?

Thanks, Gary

whether using HTML or e.g. Nuntio Content or a CMS solution depends on your needs.
