There has got to be a way or a module that allows this, I have searched the web and the best I can come up with is that there was a module for DNN 3 to do this, we ll we are no on 5 and people answers are use RSS to share... But its not just TEXT/HTML that I need to share, I have other various modules that are not core DNN that need to be shared.

I have in mind that I have 2 child portals and the parent portal would serve as the splash page or navigation between both of them, if there is something I wanted to share I would create it on the parent portal and then link it, the only way I can see to do this is VIA an external URL, this is not a great soloution, I would love the option to choose a page from my parent portal. surely there is a SQL script or module that can do this, is anyone alble to help me out at all????

You could go to http://www.inventua.com - they have a shadow module which allow you to mirror different modules through different portals. While it is not the smoothest way to do this, it does work.

I also at times have used the banner module - in host method to display images and content snippets throughout child portals.

Eventually I got a module written / extended for me on http://free.dnnskins.com - and it allows me to share content through the 60 or so child portals that reside on that build.   If you click on the dropdown menu at the top of the page, it will take you the different child portals that are running on that build.

There is no single individual content on any of those pages - each are from a module that allows me to share content through the html editor and when the module is installed on the page, I can select the content I want displayed and upon update, it shows it.  I can also add new content into the page and select whether it's for host or portal use from any location on any child portal.

It's not perfect, requires some love, but the love of money, I can't find the source code I paid for many years ago to get it updated.

Thanks for the super quick response Nina, always a great help as per usual.

I am really surprised that the DNN team have not built  this in to the core yet, and even more surprised there are little to no dev's out there doing this sort of thing, i would think its extreamly common!

Anyways it does look like Invetura does do what I need, just need to test on a larger scale, its a shame that its a one at a time shadow though!

Nina, do you recall the dev's that built the module for you I wouldn't mind investigating in the costs of developing this module?

Ta,

Brad

If you want to shoot me through an email - I'll find out what i can and send to you.  You can click the email address on my profile if you don't know my business one.

Yes it seems like a perfect fit for something dnn naturally does so well.

Anyway- it does get you started - mind you - that content on the site - they are all individual models added to the pages, they are not just one - so there is a little bit of work involved in each page, but changing them is incredibly easy.  I did make that point clear didn't I?

The shadow module does do the same thing - it has more features I think but is slightly slower to implement - eg. it will work with anything iportable from my understanding - whereas the module I am using is just a html module.

For example - the shadow module does allow you to put in several modules giving you more scope on content presentation, whereas mine is just basic html and what you can put in that.

I am glad it was of assistance. I haven't been very active on the forums lately but I do read every single post that is added to this site, even if some take me three hours and a coffee or two on a weekend to read.
