I'm in the process of setting up DNN in a company with a main and 3 child domains. From Main, things are starting to come together, i can log in and LDAP authenticate. From the sub domains however, while its possible to browse to the IIS6 directory \\servername\sharename\ its not possible to open http://servername:80

Is there another directory on the server that I'll need to change the NTFS permissions on? In the Interim boath ASP.net and NETWORK SERVICE have been given read and write access to the files.

Totally running into a wall with this one. Any help/ideas you have would be greately appreciated.

Thanks, James.

Hello James,

Welcome to the forums, I see that you joined in 2006, but this is your first post :)  Nice to meet you.

If I outline how to use child portals, perhaps you can review and decide whether you are doing it as it should be?

1) Create the main site and get it working - set a host header in IIS for www.mysite.ie I use my local host files to create an alias, and I browse to www.mysite.ie
2) From host.Portal menu, create a new Parent portal and set the alias www.yoursite.ie
3) In IIS add an additional host header for  www.yoursite.ie

You now have two website working totally independant, but on one DNN instance.

Note:  you browse to www.mysite.ie or www.yoursite.ie

Now lets review the alternate option of a child portal
1) Create www.mysite.ie as above, make sure you can browse to it
2) Create a child portal this time

you now browse to this portal by going to www.mysite.ie/mychildsite

Have that outlined how it should work?  the share name should not be relevant.

Can you outline further what is wrong ?

James, Mark might have overlooked, that you are creating intranet sites on local servers. Using file share names is not supported, you are using web sites on IIS (which might be same as share name) and need to create child portals inside. All portals inside a DNN installation are using independent user bases and need to setup AD sync individually - I haven't tried yet to setup multiple portals with AD sync, Mike might be more experienced in this scenarios.
