hello,

How easy would it be to configure DotNetNuke to work with Oracle, and what would the procedure be.  I realize that it is much easier to use sql server, but we already several oracle databases set up and running with other applications.  I am looking for a posible way to use DotNetNuke while still keeping and using the databases we already have.

Also how feasible would it be to run DotNetNuke on a sever that is not IIS.  In my case we are running our current apps which I might add are not ASP on apache tomcat.  is it posible to run an instance of DotNetNuke on apache tomcat for instance, and if so how would that be set up

There are several modules available including the Reports modules that will allow you to access "other" databases.  As long as you can define a valid connection string, the modules will be able to access the remote database.  If you want to install DotNetNuke into the Oracle database, there was a company providing the appropriate provider, but there is a charge.  I would look at SQL Express and use it as a black box that contains the required information to run the site and access the Oracle data via the various modules that can access third party databases.

As for running DotNetNuke, it may be doable, but it will be problematic from the start as you will never be sure where an issue lies -- is it in DNN or in the underlying environment that "supports" ASP.NET

Microsoft is about to release a "IIS Express" that may allow you to co-exist with your Apache enviroment -- Socttgu just announced this product today and the beta's will ship shorting.  see http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archiv...

So if you really want to use DotNetNuke, this may prove to be the solution.

Frankly, if you believe DNN is the solution, then I would provision it accordingly and run it in it's native environment if possible.

Paul.

mjliscio - There is an oracle dataprovider for DotnetNuke which was not mentioned as a possible solution to your problem. The core team decided with version 5.2.x to make it harder for the oracle version to work - even though the oracle version has worked with DNN since the 2x days of DNN and the core does not have to provide any additional support for the oracle version. I've been working to overcome the issues introduced with version 5.2.x and higher and have successfully be able to get it working again on the Oracle platform and am planning on releasing version 5.4.4 (current release of DNN Community edition) in the next couple of days. Please contact me offline (support@acuitisolutions.com) or visit www.acuitisolutions.com for more information regarding the oracle version.
