Hi,

Just curious about what the experienced developer is using for pure website development???

My question focuses on using a workstation just for the development of dotnetnuke (coding) and testing DNN websites.

For example with the WebsiteSpark program developers have access to :
  • Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition
  • Windows Web Server 2008 R2
  • SQL Server 2008 Web Edition
Or are you guys using Windows 7 as your OS with VS, SQL Server Dev?

Is Windows Web Server 2008 R2 a suitable OS for development?

I'm using a virtual setup and wondering if Windows Web Server 2008 R2 is less resource intensive to use as an OS.

Please offer up your thoughts and existing setups.

Colin

I did a blog post on how I setup my environment, you might find it useful.

I haven't found myself using virtual environments for too much development yet. I've done a few, but often find I like having the full resources a real environment provides me. When I did use a virtual I was running Win7 or XP, haven't tried 2008 at all for that.
