Miguel,
you are correct. To provide a complete step by step receipt:

  • login as Superuser ("host")
  • go to Lists in Host menu
  • select DataType from the list
  • click "add Entry"
  • Entry Text: "DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.CheckEditControl, DotNetNuke"
    Entry Value: Checkbox"
  • Click Save
  • Go to SQL in Host Menu
  • copy and paste the following text into the text box:
    UPDATE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Lists Set SystemList = 1 WHERE ListName='DataType' AND Value = 'Checkbox'
  • click "execute"
  • go to Host Settings
  • click "Restart Application"
  • go to user accounts and create/alter your new check box

Miguel, unfortunately the current core solution does not allow for multiple different registration pages or to layout this control - but there are 3rd party solutions, e.g. from DataSprings, you may use for this purpose.
