I have been looking into this keepalive situation more, since it does seem to really be necessary; I signed up with that mon.itor.us or whatever, and I thought I was adding the keepalive.aspx for my DNN site, but it doesn't seem to be there, and I can't figure out the first thing about that service; their so-called "help" or tutorials or whatever, all seem to pertain to their paid-for stuff, I don't see any instructions for the use of their free service.  If anyone can explain that thing to me, or where I might actually find some instructions for it, I sure would be grateful.

My question is this:  in addition to my asp.net server sites, I also have some linux server sites, and that acct uses cPanel, and cPanel provides this nifty thing called "CRON" -- couldn't I just setup a crontab to hit that keepalive.aspx every 15 minutes, to keep the app pool or whatever it is from vacating the premises?

My point in having these asp.net sites (a DNN site, but primarily, several MojoPortal sites) is to provide free skins and thus virally plug my design services, but I gotta say, it looks to me like Linux servers beat the stuffing out of asp.net servers, on this single point -- Linux servers don't ditch their contents after 20 minutes of non-use!!  This is ridiculous.

Can anyone help?  I also found this website which offers a free thingie, "WilsonWebKeepAlive", but he seems to assume that anyone who needs it is a programmer who knows exactly how to modify something called "global.asax" and make it "inherit from the Wilson.WebCompile.GlobalBase class" but I don't have clue ONE what that means, or how to do that.  Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Thx much,
Andria

Check free keep alive service on: NitroConnection.net, nothing to install just add your site adderss and it will be visited periodically (15min).
A few years ago I develop Linux small app hiting page, it can be putted into cron.
My email is on my profile page.

Thank you very, very much; I have just registered at nitroConnection, and am just about to add my DNN site -- do I use the keepalive.aspx, or the root URL?  I'm going to assume that it's the keepalive.aspx, because of the information I read earlier about not using the root url so that the periodic keepalive hits don't skew site statistics.  Let me know if that is not correct.

I realize this is slightly off-topic, but it does pertain to asp.net: I also wonder if this would work for MojoPortal sites; Mojo has a setting in its web.config for keepalive, and you use the site's root url, the "home page", but from what I have read about this whole keepalive situation, that would seem an ineffective way to handle the problem; if the entire site is getting dumped every 20 minutes due to low traffic, that would seem to include the web.config also, which means that any setting in it would be dumped as well.  Do I understand this correctly?  So I need to setup something like this for my Mojo sites also, I guess.  Or win the lottery and buy enough advertising to raise my traffic sufficiently to avoid the entire situation.  Think I'd better not wait around for that latter to happen.

Thanks again, many thanks!
Andria

Just wanted to say thank you again; I just checked my DNN site, after letting it sit all day, and bang! it loads like a Linux site!  That is just awesome, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate this keepalive service; I've added a notice and link back to NitroConnection at my site -- http://dnn.crypticsites.net/  if you care to visit; I have a few original DNN skins I've created on display there, but I'm still working on getting the download files for them online.  And actually I think I need to update DNN, it's been a while since I installed that site, so I'm sure there have been releases since then.  But now, thanks to you, I can proceed with this DNN effort, knowing that my site will load promptly for any visitors.

(two thumbs up!!!)

Andria
