So, I've been sitting jotting down some things I've always wanted to tackle in DNN and this one stuck out as one for the "bucket-list"...

"Redo all default DNN images to make DNN look less like Windows XP"

It seems simple enough, though it would undoubtedly take a long time... But worth-while from an aesthetic and, perhaps, a performance point-of-view. So I have a few questions that I'd like to ask before I start on this journey into the unknown. Here goes:

  1. How much / how many of the images sitting in the root "images" folder are redundant?
    • I.E. The images that have been kept around like a beloved family poodle for "legacy reasons..."
    • I.E. The images that I can delete and never have to worry about starting a new look on...
  2. There are 458 files in 5 folders, weighing in at a whopping 1,8mb!
    • That's not really a question, I know, but it's well worth mentioning...
    • Surely this is worth some concern when you consider an installation of (dare I say it) WordPress is only 3mb?
    • Which would make this one folder a third of another CMS engine's total size!
  3. Where can I find the source files (.PSD, .AI) files for these images..?
    • I know the Control Panel images used to come as a CorelDraw file or something years ago...
    • I'm hoping this exists somewhere, please direct me.
  4. I've also noticed (an this isn't a big deal) that though the folder is labeled as "images", many of the reference to the icons are ...xyx/"Images" with an uppercase "I". A minor detail, but this should be checked out. Much the same way as the class .Normal is sometimes "missspelt" as .normal - two different classes, really...
  5. Lastly, I', interested in creating a custom theme for the RadEditor...
    • The images (2 sprites) are not available for editing..? They're part of some weird assembly...
    • Where / How / Could I do this?

Otherwise, your feedback, comments and suggestions are all welcome. If anyone feels like joining me on my quest, post here.

Thanks in advance.

Jon

I think this would be a good subject for the experience team.
Most icons era from an icons set the Corp bought, so I guess there  are no PSDs for those.

I know Salar was busy converting all icons to png (with proper transparency)
IMO you should be able to set the icon set from the skin (icon base folder).
But I know the base path is hard coded in lots of places...

Hi Timo

Yeah, I questioned whether or not this should go to Experience only, but thought that by putting it open to the masses, I might get different views on the topic first and then take my findings to the team..? I'd appreciate any team members comments here too though...
