Is it better to have the dnn software upgraded on the old host site by the host and then move the files?  The new host has already had me install the latest dnn software. Please advise.

Thanks for any info.

It depends on which host you will find it easier to first make the necessary backups, upload the upgrade files, and troubleshoot any upgrade issues that may arrise.

As far as your new host having installed the latest DotNetNuke version, the files of the new installation will get overwritten by the migrated files and the new database will be restored to the migrated database so that is not a consideration.

So that we can provide additional pointers on upgrading the existing site (before or after the move) from what version and to what version will you be upgrading? Are you using any third party modules which may not be compatible with the new version?

The old version is 4.09.00 and the new verision is 5.4.4.

Is this something that I can pay someone to do or do hosting companies do this for a fee?  Just in case I may need assistance.

Thanks so much -  by the way - what is your dogs name in the photo with you?

Richard -

It appears that you have an offer to help with the upgrade/move! Hope that works out for you. I have seen several of the forum regulars offer to do upgrades and migrations either for free or a fee and have done a few for others myself. Most hosting companies unless they specialize in DotNetNuke installation and support will not be able to provide much help.

My dog's name is "Duke" - a 3 1/2 year old golden retriever with an attitude - the only golden that I've had over the years that has to be on Prozac and Clomicalm full time.
