I'm a a little confused about release numbering. I downloaded the latest release of the Community Edition (5.04.04) and read the note about .NET 3.5 being required for 5.2 onwards and thought I was safe (as I am required to use .NET 2). If I go to Host/Host Settings I am told that I the version number is 5.04.04, but if I go to Host/Extensions it says 5.4.4. I'd like to use a 5.x version if possible, but can't figure out which if any versions are .NET 2 compatible. Help please?

At time all DNN 4.x and 5.x versions are .NET 2.0 compatible, DNN 5.2 and higher needed DNN 3.5 SR1.  If .Net 3.5 is installed it is still viewed as .Net 2.0 on the servers, but you see the actauly installed version in DNN Host settings after install or in your server looking about your installed software.   First .Net 4.0 want be seperated viewed as its own version on the servers.  The latest .NET 5.x versions are also compatible to .NET 4.0.

Sure, but what's the go with the different version numbers? I am assuming that 5.04.04 is actually 5.4.4? I tried installing 5.01.03 (assuming that it was 5.1.3 and thus a pre 5.2 version that could be used with .NET 2, but it requires .NET 3.5 as well). Is there a Community Edition of 5.x that does not require .NET 3.5?

5.04.04 is the same as 5.4.4 Any DNN version starting from 5.2.0 require .Net 3.5 SP1, prior versions require .Net 2.0
