Please be aware that Content Localization is a huge feature, digging deep into the DNN structures and DNN Corp did not choose the easiest option of implementation, affecting a number of essential features which are nearly impossible to test. I myself did tests on two early beta versions and logged a number of issues, but haven't had access to latest versions. The QA team did a lot of tests as well and logged numerous issues, as you can read from Gemini, but for sure cannot cover all real situations, especially with foreign languages (AFAIK all are English native speakers). It depends on the community to log all major issues to get it fixed in the next versions.

Cheers from Germany,

Sebastian, sure its a major extention and I had expect lot of small bugs. However if you release a PE and CE version I thiks the release should work for most of the users that will use it in an multilanguage enviorment.
But...it does not work for anybody!!!
I have looked at some of your issues in gemin and read the discussion and what I read between the lines is that the developers does not understand the problems. In any case some bugs was recognized months ago but still valid.

Peronaly I had not chosen this solution but there is pro an cons with all solutions.

If you release a version with critical updates I had hoped it at least had worked for installation without turning on the localization feature but it does not.
(if more then one language exist)

This release is a beta release and should be announced as  such.

This is my opinion. DNN Corp are on twitter and request us to make a review of the release at codeplex..
http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releas...

So I asume they think its nice release.
I wait for the next and hope all showstoppers are corrected.

At risk of sounding like I'm picking sides here, might I just add an outsider's perspective. Though I am not affected by your predicament and can not understand to what extent this has complicated your existing and future business this is simply my opinion, maybe suggestion how you could approach this and other problems for that matter.

If you or your company has such an investment in DNN that breaking bugs, changes or features could affect you to this extent it would be advantages to be one of the Beta Testing users. I am not, and do not have a need to be as of now but can imagine that given some of the comments on this thread that if you are not now one you may want to become one.

To blame DNN for all your woes is a little short sighted and could prove to be bad for you.

On the other hand, getting involved, performing your own tests and making suggestions/requests during the Alpha & Beta testing stages could work to your advantage. I'm pretty sure that user features and fixes are now being included in the Core.

Furthermore, no one is "forced" to upgrade or even use DNN. If a version doesn't meet your expectations then get involved for future versions and try to get features added and bugs fixed that will benefit you and the community.

I get your plight, just not your approach, I am a community user and have not had to pay for more than a few modules and did so happily. They don't always work as hoped or expected but being cooperative and constructive has proven to be a good way to go.

Hope you all get this resolved soon, best of luck!

Josh, I usually do beta test in fact I usually test latest builds. I also use to add buggs as soon as possible in gemini.
With this release I tested the beta found some issues, loked in gemini and most of them where there.
Unfortunatlly my vacation stopped me to do more tests. When I came back no more betas was made public or nightly builds for that matter so I found no reason to proceed.
I could keep quite and dont tell my opinion and hope all bugs will be corrected anyhow but I think persons like me are needed to speak up.
Some people don't like it but a lot of people like that they know that I am telling them my true opinion not an opinion to get popular.
So I hope you will benefit of my findings and logging in gemini.

Josh -

Thank you for your posting.

Several years ago we applied to be a Beta tester and it was declined (we have the emails).

We've inquired multiple times since then, but no one gets back with us; we haven't bothered in 2010.  Why? The new DNN versions are getting increasingly better in our opinion.

However, we test everything thoroughly before they are given/upgraded to a client.

When it comes to Content Localization, DNN receives a failing grade.  The other items in DNN, such as the speed increases, are a great addition.

If DNN wants to be a serious international CMS player, then they need to deliver world-class Content Localization functionality.

We want DNN to succeed.
