In my web.config file I have theme="default" set in the <page tag. For some reason when I create a child portal and try to access it I get an error that says "Using themed css files requires a header control on the page. (eg. <head runat="server" />) When I set the theme to be empty or not even set it then everything works fine. (other than I lose my theme) I have my custom theme files in the App_Themes subdirectory off the portal root. Any idea why this is happening?

DNN does not really support Themes that way AFAIK, you are supposed to use Skins to change the appearance of the site
