Intalling DNN 05.05.01 and not getting to launch initial install http://localhost/WEBNAME and http://WEBNAME .   Website not found no matter what I do.    

I've been at this since Monday, hours and hours.  Used two different servers (2003), one server with a current successful install of DNN 05.03.  Tried installing older version 05.03.   I cannot fathom what piece I'm missing, since I've installed this successfully before.  Searched all info I can on web.   Added Default.aspx to Documents.  NETWORK SERVICE permissions. 

Using SQL Express 2005, which other DNN is successful with.  Also tried SQL Express 2008.   Tried using default website.config and modifying it explicitly for the SQL database.  Created SQL database, although I should not need to.

I'm pretty experienced IT manager.  Just mystified.

Have you tried removing DNN and asp.net from the picture?

Create your "WEBNAME" virtual directory and add a default.htm to it (which you can create quickly with some message like 'found my site' in it). Then you can verify if that is OK. Once you do this, make sure you can pull up a .NET page without an issue (basically, your default.htm renamed to default.aspx).

Thank you so much!   I did do this test and it did pass, which led me to consider the problem in a different light.  In the end I used SQLExpress 2005 with DNN 05.03 -- abandoned 05.05 and was successful. 

I appreciate your suggestion.
