Thanks guys!

I've been pulling my hair out for a couple of days over this one!

Any long-term fix? Anybody know of other free virus protection? ;)

Hey guys...

Thanks! I've been struggling with this one too...only for a couple of days but it was still driving me crazy.

Anyway, AVG will only let you disable for 15 minutes so I dug in a little bit and figured out that it's the Surf-Shield feature under the LinkScanner Component that causes the problem.

If you disable this guy you should be all good.

You can tell AVG to ignor that component as well so that you don't get the "You're not fully protected" warning from Windows / AVG.

Thanks again,
Tim

I can confirm his was an issue on my system also -- I switched to Windows native anti-virus tools and the problem has disappeared.   I moved away from AVG for other reasons, then discovered the this "happy" side-effect of the move.

So -- pass the word !

I can verify I had this same exact issue after updating to AVG 2011. I moved to Security Essentials and all has been great since then.
