Hi Michael,

I use SQL Server 2008 but not R2, and R2 db version can't be restored on SQL Server 2008! If you have an half hour to spend, you could follow this steps:

  • Restore the db with a different name
  • Open the restored db and replace the web site domain in the PortalAlias table by a temporary domain (I use no-ip.com)
  • Extract your zip of the web site under a different folder name
  • Apply the same folder rights than the real web site to the copy folder
  • Create a new web site under IIS pointing to the copy and select the same Application Pool than the real web site
  • Edit the web.config of the copy web site and replace the db name by the name of the copy db restored in the first step
  • Open the copy web site in your browser using the temporary domain name used in the second step (it should works exactly like before the 5.6.1 upgrade)

Now delete the file Default_old.page.template in the folder ...\Portals\0\Templates and upgrade your copy web site with DNN 5.6.1 as usual. This time it should works.

We (team members) are Humans offering their knowledge, their work and their spare time FOR FREE to benefit the community. It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Hello, I did the same upgrade and wondering if it is big deal to reinstall again. The only file error was
Error: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.File.Move(String sourceFileName, String destFileName)
at DotNetNuke.Services.Upgrade.Upgrade.UpgradeToVersion_530()
at DotNetNuke.Services.Upgrade.Upgrade.UpgradeApplication(String strProviderPath, Version version, Boolean writeFeedback)

Looking at the upgrade code everything else should have run just was not able to move the file because one was already in place. I check the creation of the users folders in the portals and they are in place.

Chris, without knowing the file in question it is difficult to determine the severity of the issue. I experienced least issues when upgrading via 5.2.3, 5.4.4 and 5.5.1.

Cheers from Germany,
