Win 7 Pro should be fine (unless you need bitlocker or other languages). Regarding dev speed, did you read http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2579/A-small-web-config-setting-that-can-save-you-development-time.aspx?

Thanks for the link, I'll have to give that a try.  I missed that blog entry.

Basically, it's time to replace my current machine.  It's several years old - AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 2.21 Ghz, 1gb RAM, 1tb Disk, WinXP Pro.  I could add more RAM, but it's still got some age and problems.  I'm a one man shop, so saving time (& money) is important, but I don't want to over kill with my purchase.

I'd really like to know if having 6 cores is really worth it...

sorry, I never tried 6 cores, but if there is not much difference to 4 cores, I would give it a go.
