Hope someone can help.

I have installed DNN 5.06.00 via my hosting provider link.  The install went into a new website with a new sql server 2008 database table.  So it is not installed on my local environment but directly onto my hosting provider space.

During the setup when it gets to the "Installing Database Scripts" nothing happens other than the progress bar.

There is no log file under the providers... folder. It just goes on without ever completing.

Anybody got any help?  Thanks

If Parallels Plesk is installed on you hosting provider you could not change the permissions for the root folder, you only can change the permissions to the subfolders.  This happens on all Plesk versions without 9.5.x.   Otherwise the new Plesk 10 have some more issues with permissions, I only got running DNN on Plesk 10 using .NET 4.0!   So for Plesk at time I have to suggest to install DNN into a virtual directory and add a auto forwarding on a start page as meta tag.

Otherwise you have to set execute permissions for Scripts and Executable Files, Full Permissions to all DNN Files and Folders for the Application Pool user, and read permissions for your IIS User.

Modify the web.config file to the connections for your database.

There are a lot resources how you install DNN on a IIS on this page.  There is also a excelent Blog from Joe Brinkman with all needed links to the resources.

Thanks for replying.  I don't think my hosting provider uses Plesk but I will check.

As I was waiting for a reply I tried something that got me a lot closer.
1) I wiped the db and the web site.
2) Created a new db and new website and installed DNN
3) Before I navigated to the site I edited the web.config file and modified the the database connection strings.
4) Then got the set up wizard but this time the "Auto" check box was available.  So I went with it.
I thought I was in the money until these errors showed: (only errors are shown successful results have been redacted)

On the odd chance that it might work anyway I naviagated to the site.  It displays but most of the links do not function so I can not click to log in.
I did use the ?ctl=login method and was able to get a login page to show ans was able to log in that way.

Again thanks for any help that may be given.

As all of those errors involve updates to the site's web.config file I would suspect that the ASP.Net worker process account (App Pool Identity account) does not have the required permissions on the root install folder and its contents (such as the web.config file).

If the site is working sufficiently that you can log-in as host user and open the Host-->Settings page you may be able to see the name of the ASP.Net identity account. It is this account that must be granted full permissions on the root install folder and all child folders.

And, if you are able to navigate to Admin --> Event Viewer you may be able to view more details about the errors.

Once the permission issues on the root folder are worked out I would recommend deleting all child folders and files, delete the database, recreate a new blank database, upload fresh files extracted from the DotNetNuke install package, then try the install again.
