I am in the middle of a migration from one server to another. I have restored the data base on the new server and attached the database to Microsoft SQL Server Manager Studio Express. I adjusted the Web.config file to access this database.

The pages that I had set up are there, but when I go to log in I get a message saying “Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive”. I can register a new person and they show up in the database, but then it does not log that user in and I get the same message when I try to log them in on the login page.

I am using DNN 4.09.02 moving from MS SQL Server Express 2000 to MS SQL Server 2005.

What would cause this?

When you migrated the web.config file from the old server, is there any chance that the <machinekey . . . /> section might have been altered or not migrated. Without the original values for the validationKey and decriptionKey attributes, existing passwords will fail to authenticate while those of newly registered users will work properly.
