I cannot for the life of me figure out where I went wrong.  First I had trouble with the database selection and could not proceed.  I deleted all files and started from scratch.  I have used both the Microsoft Web Installer and just the newest application zip file.

Now when I go to localhost/dotnetnuke the only thing I get is a directory listing.  No execution.

I am running Windows 7 professional, Apache server and SqlExpress.  I would like to run it under Xampp like I have Joomla running.

What have I done wrong?  How can I fix it.  I really think I rather use DNN for my web development.

Hmmm... It is really strange that you use Apache for your DNN installation because DNN needs Windows Stack. Instead of Apache use IIS. You can have 2 Web Servers runs on your machine. Reagarding your installation problem, please, specify me the following: 1) Was installation successful or not 2) What problems with database you've faced with I have never used the Microsoft Web Installer, but I think it make changes in your IIS Web Server, not Apache. If you have Apache installed and it used stadart 80th port, it can blocked your web site that deployed on IIS.

I'll give that a try.  I'm not sure yet how to assign IIs to another port, but I'll work on it.

Thanks to all who helped. I finally got it right. I killed every DNN file on my drive, assigned a new port for use by IIs and redid the Microsoft web installer. Completely different results all the way around. Even the Web Platform Installation is working and I am adding other apps. Again Thanks for the kick start
