Here is a brief summary of my situation.

We are moving to SBS 2008. We are currently running SBS 2003 SP2. We have 2 SBS 2003 servers; one as the domain controller, dhcp, dns, exchange and a file server and the other server serves as our web server and as a secondary file server. I am wondering what are the best options for moving my current dnn installation to my new server.

Currently
SBS 2003 SP2
SQL Server 2000
DNN 5.1.1

New
SBS 2008
SQL Server 2008
DNN 5.6.1

Can anyone point me in the right direction on updating/upgrading both my database and dnn installation? Thanks in advance!

I was able to restore my dnn database from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008. I then moved my entire physical directory to the new server. Created a new "web site" in IIS and changed the connection string to reflect the new database location. I then go to http://localhost/ and I simple get a statement back "Hello World." Did I do something wrong?

Not enough details to determine if you did anythig wrong. But first question I have is where is that "hello world" file at on disk? Your web site must be aiming there as its root directory. You want it to aim at the physical directory where DNN lives. That's one thing to consider. Another is what is the name of the website you created? is it the default website? Or does it have a name, so should you be going to http://myWebSiteName.localhost/ perhaps?

Okay, I had to change the "Default Document" settings. default.apsx was listed at the very bottom. Once I moved this up, it worked fine. I must still be having trouble with the Alias because when I go to http://localhost/ it goes to my other server. When I paused the old IIS, and went to http://localhost/ it seems to want me to install dnn. Is this correct?

you need to make sure having the proper alias in portal alias table. if installer pops up, there is most likely no contact to the database. Before upgrading DNN version, make sure to set database compatibility level to 100.
