Dave, if you don't use database.mdf, overwriting is no issue for you. DNN upgrade will handle required changes to web.config for you.

OK, so I did the upgrade with the Install version, not overwriting my web.config file. The exact same errors occurred.

So if it's my web.config file that is corrupt, how do I resolve that?

I just tried bringing the website to a local server and tried the upgrade. Same errors as all of the rest.

Is there something else I can test or try?

Just tried upgrading to 5.6.2 and I am getting the same errors. Any thoughts on how to possibly correct it?

As mentioned in a different post, I have installed a clean version of 5.6.0 and used that web.config as the basis, copying my information from the corrupted web.config file. All is well.
